Great Gray Owls are particularly difficult to study and understand as they are not regular migrants, their major prey pocket gophers reside underground, and their habitat changes with the seasons. In partnership with Teton Raptor Center, University of Wyoming PhD candidate Katherine Gura has evaluated weather, behavior, locations, prey abundance, and long-term demographics to decipher the critical needs of this species of greatest conservation concern here in Wyoming. RWF funded a field technician to increase the numbers of owls tracked for this study. All research was with owls here in Teton County.
